Universal Pictures already has Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom set for a theatrical release of June 22nd this year. And it seems they expect it to do well as the previous 2015 film did because today they announced they are going ahead with a third film, sixth overall in the Jurassic Park franchise, with a June 11, 2021 release date now set.
In addition, Colin Trevorrow will return to executive alongside Steven Spielberg again, along with Trevorrow set to co-write the script with Emily Carmichael announced today to be the other half of that writing duo. Carmichael recently co-wrote Pacific Rim: Uprising. Trevorrow gave the following quote on Carmicheal being hired:
It’s important to this franchise that we welcome new creative voices to keep our storytelling fresh and alive. I’m thrilled with the tension and beauty J.A. has brought to Fallen Kingdom, and I know Emily will add another layer of emotion to the concluding chapter of our trilogy.
Frank Marshall and Pat Crowley will return as producers. It’s uncertain whether Fallen Kingdom director J.A. Bayona is returning for Jurassic World 3, but we’ll keep you posted as I imagine they’ll work to get this film made soon, assuming Fallen Kingdom does well. Stay tuned!
