First Look: Filming of “The Nun” Spin-off in “The Conjuring Universe” Featurette

“The Conjuring” franchise is one of the few that has managed to, outside of the superhero genre, that seems to be successfully expanding on a cinematic universe. Not hard so believe. The main “Conjuring” films, 2013’s “The Conjuring” and 2016’s “The Conjuring 2”, have been very well-received with 86% for the first film and 79% for the second film on Rotten Tomatoes. The first film made an incredible $318 million on a $20 million budget and the second film made $320.2 million on a $40 million budget. Between the two films we got the first spin-off, the prequel film “Annabelle” in 2014 which was not well-received with a 29% on Rotten Tomatoes but the film managed to make $256.8 million on a mere $6.5 million budget. And then this year we got a sequel to that prequel titled “Annabelle: Creation” which was better received with a 69% on Rotten Tomatoes while also making an impressive $303.2 million on a $15 million budget.

For the horror genre, this kind of continuous acclaim and box office success (Totaling $1.1 billion so far) is pretty great. And now, we’re soon to get the third spin-off, a separate entity titled “The Nun” which will focus on the antagonist of “The Conjuring 2”. While the film won’t be released till July 13, 2018, today we have a sneak peek that ties into the home media of “Annabelle: Creation” that hit DVD and Blu-Ray on October 24th. Titled “The Conjuring Universe”, this brief featurette also offers a first look at “The Nun” at around the 3:55 mark. Check it out below:

“The Nun” stars Taissa Farmiga, Demián Bichir, Charlotte Hope, and Bonnie Aarons. It is directed by Corin Hardy.
